PRSSA
PRSSA is the Public Relations Student Society of America. PRSSA is made for students interested in the field of public relations. This chapter is a way for students to become familiar with the world of public relations and make some helpful contacts at the same time. It affiliates with the national and professional organization of PRSA. The website for PRSA describes it as being "the world's largest organization for public relations professionals." PRSSA is a way for students to meet some of the members of PRSA and make connections so that the transition into the professional side of PR is a smooth one. PRSA offers a scholarship opportunity every year to students. There are also many volunteer and internship opportunities available through being affiliated with PRSSA. One such opportunity is volunteering at the Pinnacle Awards. This gives students a chance to witness, first hand, the judging of public relations campaigns. SPJ
The Society of Professional Journalists is the most broad-based journalism organization in the country, appealing to practitioners of print, broadcast and new media. For more than 90 years, SPJ has fought to protect First Amendment rights and provided a valuable networking tool for both professional and student journalists. The organization has nearly 250 chapters nationwide, including one in Las Vegas and one at UNLV. WIC
Women in Communications (WIC) is a non-profit organization that caters to the "advancement, education, socialization and professional well-being of its members," according to its Web site. The organization conducts "luncheons which provide a forum for the exchange of ideas along with relationship-building opportunities, in the organization's fundraising efforts, and by maintaining an active job bank for its members."
